Training Modalities

Tai Chi

Tai Chi is a form that can be described as a moving meditation combined with Qigong. Through a sequence of postures, we learn balance and coordination, while strengthening the body. As we connect the movements of postures with the breath, Qi begins to flow in the body. Through this process we can clear blockages and improve our overall health. Each posture is also connected to a particular organ/meridian and can be held as a static Qigong practice to gain its benefits.

The slow meditative Tai Chi is great for everyone and is particularly safe and beneficial for those with chronic illnesses, injuries and joint problems.

The second stream taught, will be Tai chi as a martial arts self-defence application, where you can learn reflexive street fighting natural movements while striking acupressure points.

Qigong

Qiqong translates to life energy cultivation. It is a holistic system of coordinated body postures, movements, breathing and meditation used for the purpose of health and healing. People practice Qigong worldwide for exercise, relaxation, preventative medicine, meditation, self-cultivation, and training for martial artists.

Qigong practice typically involves moving meditation, coordinating slow flowing movement, deep rhythmic breathing, and a calm meditative state of mind that cultivates, harnesses and optimises the flow of Qi throughout the body.

Besides increasing energy, vitality and overall wellbeing, Qigong has been found to be beneficial in a wide range of medical conditions, such as: cardiovascular disease (hypertension, cholesterol, diabetes), muscular and neuropathic pain, cancer, , anxiety, depression, arthritis, auto-immune disorders, digestive system disorders, rehabilitation post trauma and post surgery, etc, with respect to increasing quality of life.

You will also learn how to cultivate Qi and use it to heal yourself.

Baguazhang (Bagua)

Baguazhang is an internal martial art which means ‘8 diagram palm’. It was designed by the interactions between Chinese warriors and shamans. The warriors would go to the shamans before battle to receive guidance and blessings. They would walk circles in prayer ceremony as well as mimic animal movements in nature.

Baguazhang is well known for its circular form, but also has a linear form. Most of the power is generated from the twisting waist and spiral movements and in the process Qi is generated through the meridians and organs. At a higher level, this process is similar to the fine tuning of an acupuncture needle when positioned on a particular acupoint on the body, gently activating twisting and spiralling it to stimulate the Qi in that particular meridian.

Because of its close connection to shamanism, Baguazhang also has animal forms which are physical movements, spirit expressions and energetic activations of the animals.

Baguazhang is a lot more physical than Tai Chi and works the body more. It develops flexibility, timing, and to some degree, improves fitness. Just like Tai Chi, one can practice Baguazhang in a Qigong way and also hold various postures to activate their own particular Qi healing in the body.
